I asked my heart
why have you let me down?
You're supposed to be
    giving me courage
& keep me flowing in inspirations
My heart replied
    You're the one who's
    misread the passages of life
When times got tough you tried your best
    to cover your tracks
    & bury yourself in excuses
but life is everywhere in this world
there's no place to hide from it

Do you think that not living
    will keep you from dying?
Dying is just what you need
You're not being held prisoner
    You broke your words
    over your own knee
You waved a blank page
    like a white flag
but life never accepted your surrender
You weren't brought out of nonexistence
to only dream of being awake
You're my lover & always will be

Your light hasn't burned out
    Your connection has shaken loose
I'll make your wire a live one
    but you'll have to run
    on my electricity
I'll light up your eyes
I'll show you what thirst is for
I'll call you my open flame
Poetry is a service for those who read it
Do nothing
    to impede the listening process
Then write & you'll never go wrong
